On Saddle Sores: Why Cyclists Should Use Chamois Cream

Lubricating the buttocks is as important as lubricating the chain. You can get by without it, but it's damn uncomfortable. It squeaks and it hurts. Chamois creams (or creams for cyclists) aren't just for the pros who spend endless hours in the bike saddle. On the contrary, they should be used by anyone going on any kind of ride, no matter how short. If you feel friction in the sitting area or inner thighs, it's already too late. You should have lubricated earlier, for example with our Smiling Butt Cream.

We created Smiling Butt Cream in collaboration with a traditional Czech manufacturer of aromatherapeutic cosmetics in two versions for both male and female riders. They differ in color, but mainly in the blend of essential oils. Cedar, cypress, and cajeput for male cyclists; lemon, pink palm, and spearmint for female cyclists. We developed it primarily with hobbyists like us in mind, who suffer from saddle sores, blisters, abrasions, or outright inflammation.

We have many avid cyclists around us who we expected to go far. That's why we were pleasantly surprised when Smiling Butt Cream gained popularity among everyone and secured the first contract to join the continental UCI peloton, with not just one, but two teams – RRK Group Pierre Baguette Benzinol and ATT Investments Pro Cycling Team.

SBC is keeping up with the times and, like the greatest riders of today, is multi-disciplinary. In addition to road and MTB cycling, it is increasingly being used by bikepackers, which makes us especially happy. The idea and plan to become the first in the world to produce custom 3D printed saddles came about during our multi-day bike tours, where we realized that we would also need chamois cream. Believe us, we know what we're talking about.

Just for the packers who count every gram, we've also come up with a 15ml travel pack. Nobody really wanted to carry the standard 100ml bottle in a frame bag, except for the Czech cycling duo "Furt Pryč", who used up one and a half bottles during their 16-month bikepacking trip around the world, covering over 28,400 kilometers (17,600 miles). Yes, we're pleased to report that the bottle has more staying power than the average ultra-cyclist. So don't be afraid to apply the cream generously to the body and lining of your bib shorts. It's not bottomless, but it will last a long time.

The 15ml Smiling Butt Cream package is perfect to take with you on rides

Smiling Butt Cream can alleviate symptoms such as redness, pressure sores, blisters, and chafing, while significantly speeding up recovery. It also reduces friction on contact with the bike saddle, helping to prevent complications. You can find it in the Smileshop, as well as in the starter pack of L'Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France and Malevil Cup, and at the brand new Jeroboam gravel race in the Jeseníky Mountains. Participants of the prestigious international stage race Tour de Feminin, which takes place every year in our home region of Šluknov, will also receive a package of Posedla cream.

While cream for the sitting area is essential for a smooth ride, every cyclist also deserves care after the ride. That's why we've come up with Magic Butt Balm, an emulsion that significantly speeds up the regeneration of irritated skin in the seating area. You can even use the balm before exertion to help prevent skin irritations.

It may sound like a cliché, but it's also a time-honored truth: they who lubricate, ride faster. Whether it's the chain, muscles, or buttocks. And if you don't feel relief even after regular use of chamois cream, maybe it's time to configure your own custom 3D-printed saddle to get rid of your problems once and for all.
